The History

VET Trust began in the late 1980s as the brainchild of Drs Bill Martin and Hugh Boyd, developed with the encouragement of Scottish Branch BVA.  Dr Boyd was the Scottish RCVS Regional CPD Dean and was able to co-ordinate and direct the embryonic demand for CPD within the profession in Scotland.

A Scottish charitable company was born in 1992. The directors were gathered from all aspects of Veterinary life in Scotland.  MAFF (in those days), SAC, practice, academia and public health were all represented. “VETCPD”, or to give it the full title, Veterinary Education Trust for Continuing Professional Development provided a quarterly calendar of CPD events, organised quality CPD and offered assistance and encouragement to any useful CPD suggestions.

Membership, at a small cost, was the manner in which the profession could support the ideals of CPD and reap the benefits of availability and quality of CPD within the geographical confines of travel.
